Vice-president Meets HK, Macao Chief Executives

Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao met with Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Wednesday.

Vice-president Meets HK, Macao Chief Executives
Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao met with Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Wednesday.

Hu said the newly elected leaders at the recent 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China would stick to the Party's policies on Hong Kong and Macao.

Hu promised the central government would strive to support the two chief executives and their administrations. He noted the central government would take every necessary step to support and promote the two regions' prosperity, stability and development.

Hu said he hoped both regions would fully play their roles in working with the interior of China to build a brighter future for the country.

The vice-president also asked Tung and Ho to extend his warm greetings and good wishes to compatriots in Hong Kong and Macao.

During the meeting, Tung and Ho briefed Hu on the current situation in their respective regions.

Tung and Ho are in Beijing on an annual official visit.
