Wuhan Aims to be Booming Modern Manufacturing Center

Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province, is striving to turn itself into a thriving modern manufacturing center for central China.

Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province, is striving to turn itself into a thriving modern manufacturing center for central China.

To attain the goal, the city would take three essential steps, restructuring its industries in an effort to build a framework for modern manufacturing within a period of five years, said Yin Zengtao, deputy secretary of the Wuhan City Committee of the Communist Party of China.

In the first instance, Wuhan will focus mainly on building five production centers for electronic information industries, rolled steel, biological and pharmaceutical development as well as environmental protection.

Secondly, the municipal government will encourage business people from overseas to invest in the city's manufacturing, optical communications, high technologies, energy, transport and other sectors.

Meanwhile, the city will build a competent and highly-efficient government, doing away with 40 percent of existing legal documents and regulations which do not conform to the new climate in accordance with the guidelines of the 16th CPC National Congress.

Wuhan had the edge on other regions in turning itself into a modern manufacturing center in central China, Yin said. As a traditional manufacturing center, the city has already built a comprehensive industrial set-up for iron and steel, automobiles, machinery and high-tech products.

Moreover, Wuhan is one of China's major transport hubs, the municipal deputy Party secretary said.
