Officials Punished for Bribery

The former chairman of a state-owned company was sentenced to death with a two-year suspension and Shenzhen's former customs chief was jailed for life on Friday for taking millions of yuan in bribes.

The former chairman of a state-owned company was sentenced to death with a two-year suspension and Shenzhen's former customs chief was jailed for life on Friday for taking millions of yuan in bribes.

Zhao Yucun, former chief of the Shenzhen customs office, in south China's Guangdong province, was sentenced to life imprisonment for taking bribes worth nine million yuan (US$ 1.1 million).

Zhao also received secret money together with his two daughters, Zhao Yin and Zhao Ping, who were jailed for six years and three years respectively. All of them have surrendered the money.

Li Yuguo, former chairman of the state-owned Shenzhen Urban Construction Group, was given a two-year suspended death sentence for receiving bribes including 2.36 million yuan (US$ 285,000), one million HK dollars and 500,000 US dollars.

The cases were heard at the Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court.
