Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat revealed Friday that the Israeli army had recently begun to implement a new military plan against the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.

Arafat told reporters outside his besieged office after Friday's Moslems weekly prayers that the Israeli army had started a new military plan called "Defensive-Aggressive" plan.

"What is happening day and night in the West Bank and Gaza of killing and destruction of houses is clear evidence that the Israeli army is using such a declared plan against our people," said Arafat.

Eight Palestinians were killed in less than 24 hours. Five of them were civilians tried to infiltrate into Israel to look for a job. Two militants were killed as trying to infiltrate into Gaza Jewish settlements while the other one was arrested and killed near his house in the West Bank.

"Five Palestinian workers were killed in a cold blood by the soldiers while they were trying to fight starvation that they are facing due to the Israeli siege imposed on the Gaza Strip," said Arafat, adding "they did not have guns."

"Tell me, why they (soldiers) killed the workers? It is an intentional killing. I have information that they were arrested and then were executed in a cold blood," he denounced.

Arafat blasted the Israeli government for demolishing nine houses in the West Bank town of Hebron, adding that the Israeli Supreme court had decided to halt the demolition.

"This government doesn't even respect its court's decision. The soldiers made their decision and implement it without referring to the court. What kind of government and what kind of army is this?" he questioned.

The Palestinian leader called upon the whole world to urge Israel to stop "these daily crimes that Israel is practicing against our people day and night."

"I tell the Israelis, you would never succeed to break the determination of our people," Arafat stressed.

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict has been mounting with death tolls on both sides rising.

The recent deaths have brought the number killed by Israeli troops since the start of the Palestinian intifada, or uprising, in late September 2000 to at least 2,768, including 2,039 Palestinians and 680 Israelis, according to a preliminary estimate.
