A committee of Israel's Labor party has unveiled a separated-Jerusalem solution, proposing Israel's capital only include those parts that belong to the existing Jewish communities.

"The Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem constitute Israel's capital," Israel Radio quoted the proposal as saying on Sunday.

The Labor committee was also reported to suggest that the party's platform for the coming general elections be modified to omit an article concerning a unified Jerusalem.

The separated-Jerusalem proposal is contained in the elections platform draft of the committee, which did not say who would control the sensitive holy sites in the city.

The draft will be submitted for party approval in the coming week, though many Labor members dub it too "dovish" to be "compatible with the party."

Labor's parliament member Ephraim Sneh (former transport minister) told the radio Sunday morning that the party does not plan to annex the east Jerusalem neighborhoods of Ras al Amud and Shuefat in a final status agreement.

"We are talking about a vision for a large, Jewish, Israeli Jerusalem, without Arab neighborhoods," he said.

"The expression 'non-unified' is irrelevant because we have no intention to force our authority, neither state nor municipal, on the Arab neighborhoods. The principle is: Whatever is Jewish belongs to Israel, and whatever is Arab belongs to the Arabs," Snehadded.
