After four days' field inspection and evaluation, the newly completed Xinyi-Changxing railway, with the total length of 521.93km, passed the preliminary acceptance on Dec. 15.

Xinyi-Changxing Railway, one of the national "ninth five-year-plan" key projects, linking up Longhai Railway and Jiaodong-Xinyi Railway in the north, connects Shanghai-Nanjing Railway and Xuanzhou-Hangzhou Railway in the south, passes Hai'an city and Nanjing-Qidong Railway(under construction). It is a main thoroughfare running through the hinterland in Jiangsu province. It plays an important role in improving the road net layout in east China and enhancing material exchange in the following provinces including Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shandong as well as promoting the economic development in the cities along the railway.
