Hu Jintao Congratulates Mbeki for Re-election as ANC President

Hu Jingtao, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee,Tuesday extended his congratulations to Thabo Mbeki for his re-election as the President of the African National Congress.

Hu said in his message: "Delighted upon hearing your re-election to the post of President of the African National Congress, I wish to extend, on behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and on my own behalf, sincere and warm congratulations,"

"I wish Your Excellency every success on this lofty post. May the existing friendly, cooperative relations between the Communist Party of China and the African National Congress be strengthened constantly. May the bilateral relations of mutual benefit and cooperation between China and South Africa develop steadily," the message reads.

Hu's message was delivered by Wang Jiarui, alternative member of the Central Committee of the CPC and deputy head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, in Stellenbosch, Western Cape province, where South African President and ANC leader Thabo Mbeki opened the 5-day ANC conference by calling for nationwide efforts to enhance peace and stability in the country
