Top Lawmaker Meets Thai Chinese Business Leaders

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), or China's top legislature, met Wednesday with noted Thai Chinese business leaders Boonsong Srifuengfung and Smain Ophasuongse.

In the meeting, Li recalled the enthusiastic welcome and hospitality he had received from the Thai Chinese community duringhis September visit to Thailand.

China and Thailand are close friendly neighbors and Sino-Thai relations have been developing smoothly in all spheres over the past years, thanks to the great importance attached and priority given by leaders of both countries, Li noted.

Noting that he had made five trips to Thailand, the top legislator said that, as one of the promoters and witnesses of Sino-Thai friendship, he came to realize that the continuous growth of the good-neighborly bilateral friendly ties was attributed to the attention of the two countries' leaders as well as joint efforts of the two governments and the people of all social strata in both countries.

Li also briefed the Thai visitors on the recently-convened 16thCongress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
