State Councilor Wu Yi urged China's administrations for industry and commerce at various levels to earnestly carry out their duties of regulating the market order.

Wu, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks Thursday while meeting with delegates to the national meeting on the work of administration for industry and commerce. She noted that all levels of the relevant administrations should work hard to providea sound environment for China's drive to build a relatively affluent society in the coming years.

Wu asked the administrations across the country to support the thorough reform of state-owned enterprises and to promote the development of the private sector, including the self-employed, and private and foreign-funded enterprises.

She said administrations should improve their work and develop a work system suitable for the market economy and in line with the requirements imposed by China's WTO membership.

The administrations should focus on people's rights, interests and safety, protecting the legal rights of both businesses and customers, the councilor said.
