An integrated circuits (IC) research and development center was inaugurated recently in Shanghai.

The center, in Zhangjiang High-Tech Park of Pudong New District, aims to form home-made intellectual property rights, and provide technical support and services to develop China's micro-electronic industry.

Jointly invested by three companies and three universities in Shanghai, the center is the first one in China which is operated in the way of running a business rather than a state-run research institute.

Shanghai is an important base for the development of the IC industry, accounting for more than half of the country's total IC products.
