World No. 1 Chen Hong of China downed Malaysia's Hock Kin Yong 15-13, 15-8 on Saturday to reach the men's singles final of the China Open badminton championships.

Chen, who is looking for his fourth Grand Prix title of the season to add to his success in the Japan, Singapore and Denmark Opens, will face another Malaysian Choong Hann Wong in Sunday's final.

Chen, top seed in the tournament, surged to a 7-0 and 13-4 leadin the first game only for Yong to claw back and reduce the deficit at 13-11 and then 14-13.

But the Chinese top singles shuttler, who was sidelined for this year's Thomas Cup due to injury, overcame the shock and converted the game point.

Yong led 3-1 in the second set but Chen collected eight straight points to overtake 9-3.

Chen then enlarged the advantage to 14-7. After missing one match point, the 23-year-old Chinese hit a cross-court smash to settle the match 15-8.

In the other semifinal, Wong, runner-up of last year's China Open, took only 35 minutes to shut out Denmark's Kenneth Jonassen, the only non-Asian in the top four, 15-3, 15-7.
