In an exclusive interview with Xinhua on the eve of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's China tour, the foreign minister noted thatsince Khaleda Zia, chairperson of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party, first took office in 1991 as prime minister, "we have placed very special emphasis on Bangladesh's relations with our true and trusted friend, the People's Republic of China."

Referring to Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji's visit to Bangladesh in January 2002, the foreign minister observed that thevisit "was significant in many ways."
