South Korean big enterprise Hydai Asan Co.'s plan to launch a pilot trip through a temporary road to Mount Geumgan of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) may be blocked due to the failure of inter-Korean military talks ending Tuesday.

South Korea and the DPRK have failed to reach an agreement on the passage of two temporary roads across the demilitarized zone (DMZ), which separated the Korean Peninsula, the South Korean Ministry of Defense was quoted by the national news agency Yonhap News as saying Tuesday.

In a meeting at the village of Panmunjom, military authorities from the two sides failed to reach an agreement on guarantee of the safety of personnel and vehicles passing the DMZ, said the ministry.

The differences in the talks are feared to set back two inter-Korean projects, including the planned launch of an overland routeto Mount Geumgang at the end of the year and transportation of materials and equipment required for the construction of an industrial complex in the DPRK's city of Kaesong.

The two sides have scheduled ground-breaking work for the industrial complex for later this week.

They completed land-mine clearing in two parts of the DMZ, which started in September, to construct two sets of railways and their adjacent roads, one in the western sector and the other in the eastern one.
