Two thermal power plants will be built in Xiangshan Port and Qiangjiao Port in Ningbo city, east China's Zhejiang Province, to relieve an electricity shortage in the province.

The two projects will cost over 20 billion yuan (2.4 billion USdollars), according to sources with the local government.

Xiangshan Port's Wushashan thermal power plant will be the first to be installed with four units that can generate 600,000 kilowatts of power each, an amount which will be doubled in the long term.

The same capacity will be installed at the other thermal power plant in Qiangjiao Port.

The plants will mainly rely on coal transported from Beilun Port, one of the country's four largest deep-water ports.

The two plants will also comply with relevant environmental standards on the discharge of waste water.
