Moderate Earthquake Shakes Taiwan
An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale vibrated Taiwan Wednesday afternoon with no immediate report of casualties or damage.

Wednesday afternoon with no immediate report of casualties or damage.
The epicenter of the quake, which struck at around 3:29 (0729 GMT), was about 11 km northeast of Ilan county in Taiwan's northeastern coast at the depth of 57 km, according to the local seismologists.
Earthquakes happen frequently in Taiwan, which lies on a seismic belt of the Pacific basin.
One of Taiwan's worst-recorded quakes occurred in September 1999, killing more than 2,400 people and destroyed or damaged thousands of buildings.
