British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said a Palestinian reform will be conducive to pushing the so-called "roadmap" on Mideast peace, leading Egyptian newspaper al-Ahram reported on Wednesday.

The reform drive will boost the peace plan which envisages a final status agreement between Israel and the Palestinians by 2005,Blair was quoted as saying.

For the purpose, Britain invited Palestinian leaders to attend aconference on the Palestinian reform next month, Blair noted, adding he has asked Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, whom the United States and Israel have tried to sideline, to appoint delegates to the conference due on Jan. 13-14.

The Palestinian civil society, the so-called Quartet composed ofthe United States, the European Union, the United Nations and Russia, as well as representatives from Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan have also been invited, the British prime minister said.

The Quartet convened on Dec. 20 a high-level meeting, during which it failed to unveil the "roadmap" for ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict due to objection from the United States.

The peace plan, worked out by the Quartet, calls for comprehensive political and security reforms in the Palestinian National Authority.
