22 Killed on Christmas Eve in El Salvador

Twenty-two people were killed on Christmas Eve in violent clashes or road accidents mainly due to excessive drinking, El Salvador's state emergencies commission said Wednesday.

Twenty-two people were killed on Christmas Eve in violent clashes or road accidents mainly due to excessive drinking, El Salvador's state emergencies commission said Wednesday.

Commission Chairman Cardo Gonzales said that 11 people died in violent clashes and 11 others were killed in drunk driving road accidents during Christmas Eve celebrations, according to reports from San Salvador.

There were 78 road accidents across El Salvador on Christmas Eve, 38 of them in the capital city.

Gonzales said excessive drinking was the main cause of the actsof violence and road accidents.
