The Peruvian Attorney General's office announced on Wednesday that it will file a new indictment against former President Alberto Fujimori and five retired generals, for forming an illicit association to commit crimes and embezzle state funds.

The accused are retired army generals Jose Villanueva, Cesar Saucedo, Walter Chacon and Carlos Bergamino, as well as retired police general Fernando Dianderas, the Attorney General's office said.

Fujimori, who ruled the country from 1990 to 2000, and the five retired generals were indicted for illegally ordering the military and police to engage in activities favoring his election campaign in 2000. They were also accused of embezzling state funds to help finance Fujimori's re-election.

The Attorney General's office has already charged Fujimori with abandonment of office, embezzlement, homicide and violation of citizens' communication privacy.

Fujimori stepped down in November 2000 amid a political scandal. He is now living in self-imposed exile in Japan under the protection of his Japanese citizenship to avoid trial in Peru. Last week he announced his intention to participate in Peru's 2006 presidential election.
