The Israeli security establishments have arrested more than 1,800 Palestinians during the past four months, the Ha'aretz Daily reported on Thursday.

Among the arrested, some are reportedly defined by the establishments as senior members and suicide bombers belonging to Palestinian radical organizations, such as Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Islamic Jihad (holy war) and Palestinian mainstream Fatah movement's armed wing Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.

The wave of arrests in the occupied territories has dramatically reduced the number of attacks and Israeli casualties, but security sources warned Wednesday that the Palestinian organizations would continue attack Israeli targets.

The security establishments have prepared for the possibility of an escalation in the attacks, which would be aimed at showing support for Iraq's Saddam Hussein.

Meanwhile, The Israeli army has recently started to establish for West Bank Jewish settlements some "special security zones", in which the army would apply special rules that allow the soldiers to fire at anyone who tries to infiltrate these zones.

The creation of these zones is entirely a security move, which would not give settlers the right to expand their land in the territories, some senior army officers said.
