Chinese Vice-Premier Li Lanqing says the fiscal and taxation system should be further improved to meet the needs of the socialist market economy.

Speaking at a national conference in Beijing on fiscal and taxation work, Li Lanqing stresses that a sound fiscal system is an important part of building the socialist market economy, and for meeting the demand to transform the functions of government departments. He says China should further deepen reforms in fiscal management based on China's national conditions.

He also urges enhancing reform of the taxation system and establishing a sound mechanism that embodies state policy and caters to the requirements of the state budget.

The vice-premier points out that China will crack down hard on tax crimes.
