Annual Output of Karamay Oilfield Hits 10mn Tons

President with Xinjiang Oilfield Co. Wang Yilin noted in the interview with the reporter Dec 23, 2002 that by December 22 this year the Karamay oilfield located in Junggar Basin had achieved the goal, an annual oil output of 10mn tons. It told the birth of the first oilfield with 10mn tons of oil in West China.

The Junggar Basin, of rich resources, is the main area for oil prospecting and exploitation of the Karamay oilfield. The new round of assessment of oil gas resources shows that the basin has a petroleum reserve of 8.6bn tons and a natural gas reserve of 2.1trn cubic meters.

Last November high-yield industrial flow of oil gas gushed from three newly discovered wells in the belly of the basin, roughly presenting a perspective of another two oilfield of enormous reserve. So far 25 oil gas fields have been found in succession in Junggar basin, with the crude oil output reaching 9.68mn tons last year, more than doubling that in 1978.
