Palestinian Militants Call for Resuming Armed Attacks against Israel

Dozens of Palestinian militants and masked young men demonstrated on Saturday near the West Bank town of Nablus and called for the resumption of armed attacks against Israel, witnesses said.

Dozens of Palestinian militants and masked young men demonstrated on Saturday near the West Bank town of Nablus and called for the resumption of armed attacks against Israel, witnesses said.

The witnesses said that the armed and masked young men, members of Fatah movement, headed by Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, marched in the streets of Balatta refugee camp near Nablus and waved Palestinian flags.

The demonstration was organized to mark the 37th anniversary of the establishment of the movement. Fatah usually celebrates this anniversary on Jan. 1 of every year.

The militants, wearing black uniform and holding arms, are members of the movement's armed wing known as Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, that was established when the Palestinian intifada, or uprising, began more than two years ago.

"All the assassinations and masses of arrest operations, which was carried out by the occupation forces in the West Bank that target Palestinian militants would never break our determination tocontinue our struggle," said one of the masked young men in the rally.

Israel had reoccupied most of the West Bank, and tightened security measures in the Gaza Strip after Palestinian militants increased its armed and suicide bombing attacks in Israel and against settlers and soldiers.

The Israeli army had intensified its operations in the Palestinian territories, imposed curfew in the big cities and besieged them, divided the Gaza Strip and carried out a series of assassinations of Palestinian activists.

Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz revealed that the Israeli army had arrested 1,000 Palestinians in one month during operationsin the West Bank, adding that all were involved in armed attacks against Israel.

Mofaz told Israeli Radio that the Israeli army is intending to present a military plan to intensify the assassination operations against Palestinian militants and increase the army raids to arrestactivists and militants.
