PM's Visit Brings Bangladesh, China Closer: Bangladeshi FM

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's just concluded visit to China has brought closer therelations between the two friendly countries and set directions for diversifying cooperation between them, Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan said here Saturday.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's just concluded visit to China has brought closer relations between the two friendly countries and set directions for diversifying cooperation between them, Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan said here Saturday.

Briefing newsmen here, the foreign minister said that he is "very happy" with the outcome of the "fruitful visit" that will diversify cooperation in trade, economy and agriculture and increase market access for Bangladesh products.

He said that during the visit, Khaleda Zia had very useful discussions with Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Li Peng and Vice President Hu Jintao.

At the talks between Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and her Chinesecounterpart Zhu Rongji, the two sides reviewed the regional and international situation and agreed to step up bilateral cooperation between the two countries, he said.

ASEAN Cooperation for Dialogue, Asian Regional Forum and Bangladesh's interest to be included in both organizations, and regional and sub-regional cooperation also came up for their discussion, Morshed Khan said.

The two sides also agreed to work for international peace and fight terrorism, he said.
