China will continue to abide by the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence, and promote friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation with all other countries, Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan said Saturday.

Tang made the remark at the New Year reception in honor of foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on Saturday evening.

Tang said China would continue to work to promote the establishment of a just and rational new international order, to help create a peaceful international and good-neighborly environment.

In 2002, he said, China had adhered to its independent foreign policy of peace, safeguarded world peace, promoted common development, and played an active part in international exchanges and cooperation.

China's relationship with other countries had also enjoyed further improvement, Tang said.

China's development was important to regional invigoration and world prosperity, he said, adding that in the future China would contribute even more to world peace and development.

At the reception, Eleih-Elle Etian, head of the foreign diplomatic mission and Cameroon ambassador to China, praised China's achievements and wished the Chinese people new successes in developing the country, safeguarding world peace and promoting common development.

After the reception, an operatic concert was held in honor of the foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations.

Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen attended the reception and concert.
