China will provide a preferential credit of up to 710 million Chinese yuan (85.5 million US dollars) for Vietnam to build the Cao Ngan thermal power plant.

A framework agreement to this effect was signed in Hanoi on Monday.

According to the agreement, the credit is to be paid within 15 years at an interest rate of 3 percent per annum.

The Harbin Power Engineering Co. Ltd (HPE) was selected to carry out the third bidding package of this 100-MW power plant.

The construction of Cao Ngan power plant began in northern ThaiNguyen province on November 12 this year.

This is the second power plant, after Na Duong thermo-power plant in northern border Lang Son province, which uses low qualitycoal with a 2.5 percent sulphurous content.
