Beijing Olympics Promote Spread of Olympic Movement in China

The 2008 Olympic Games provides a good opportunity for the spread of the Olympic Movement in China, a top official from the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympics (BOCOG) said in Beijing on Wednesday.

The 2008 Olympic Games provides a good opportunity for the spread of the Olympic Movement in China, a top official from the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympics (BOCOG) said in Beijing on Wednesday.

Jiang Xiaoyu, vice president of BOCOG, made the remarks Wednesday at a seminar to mark the birth of Lebaron Pierre de Coubertin, the modern Olympic Games founder who was born on Jan. 1,1863.

The Olympic Movement has become the most influential social and cultural event in the world since it was innovated in the 19th century, said Jiang.

"It had made great contribution to world peace and the development of the human beings," he said.

Jiang also said that the 2008 Olympics would promote the spread of the Olympic Movement in China.

"In the build-up to the 2008 Games, Beijing will take it as a good opportunity to spread the Olympic Movement in the city and the country as a whole," he added.
