China to Face Brazil in Soccer Friendly in February

Dutchman Arie Haan faces a tough test to start his tenure as the head coach of the Chinese nationalsoccer team as his side will play world champions Brazil in an international friendly next month in Guangzhou, the capital of South China's Guangdong province, local media reported on Friday.

The A-class international friendly, which is scheduled for February 12, will be the first match for the Chinese side under Haan's reign. The 54-year-old Haan was appointed the head coach of the Chinese team on Dec. 22, 2002.

"Both sides have reached an agreement on the match," the Beijing Youth Daily quoted an anonymous organizing official as saying on Friday.

"Everything is settled except the signings of the Chinese Football Association and their Brazilian counterparts on the contract."

The game will be a rematch for the two teams who met during thefirst round of the 2002 World Cup finals, with eventual champions Brazil prevailing 4-0.

According to the Beijing Youth Daily, the World Cup holders will be paid 1.25 million US dollars for the friendly while the host team could get no more than 100,000 US dollars.

"But the Brazilian side must field a near-full strength squad which include Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos and Cafu," the Beijing YouthDaily quoted the official as saying.
