Seventeen tons of unqualified bananas imported from the Philippines have been ordered to be sent back by the quarantine administration of northeast China's Liaoning province.

The quarantine administration urged that the three containers of bananas be shipped out of China from the Dalian port as soon as possible.

The 17 tons of bananas were shipped to Dalian, a major port in northeast China's Liaoning province, at the end of last December and most were found to be moldy and rotten.

After careful examination, the local quarantine administration believed the quality of the bananas was far below the standard set by China and were not suitable for eating.
