Hong Kong's opening clash against Qiqihar, which was originally scheduled Saturday morning, has been postponed till Jan. 7, which should have featured one-day leave.

The ice hockey Competition Commission of the 10th National Winter Games announced Saturday that Hong Kong's first two matches will be played next Tuesday due to the delay of Hongkong players' arrival.

"Some (Hong Kong) players, as well as the team leader, have arrived at Harbin while others are still at Hong Kong," said Yu Liantao, an official from the competition commission.

According to Yu, the Hong Kong team booked their flight according to the original ice hockey programme, in which Macao, which was registered for the competition later than the deadline, was not involved.

"Part of the team changed their flight in accordance with the new programme after Macao's entry, yet the rest are unable to reschedule their trip since they're only amateurs and have their own business to deal with." Yu added.

Hong Kong is to face Harbin, the other favorite for the title besides Qiqihar, in its second match.

The ice hockey competition features seven teams with Macao playing its first-ever National Winter Games. Hong Kong made its debut in 1999.
