At least 30 people are feared dead after a boat they were traveling in capsized on a picturesque lake in Tanzania, local media reported Sunday.

Sources with local police were quoted as saying the accident occurred Friday when the boat, christened MV Nguvu za Maskini, sank on Lake Victoria, the world's second largest freshwater lake.

Twelve bodies had been recovered by Saturday, they said.

Eyewitnesses said the boat, which was traveling between Nkome village in Geita District and Izumacheli island on Lake Victoria, was overloaded with cargo and passengers.

The search for more bodies was still going on, according to the report.
