Shanghai to Hold Forum on Diverse Economies in China

Some 800 economists and business leaders will gather in Shanghai from January 9 to 11 to discuss China's diverse economies.

Some 800 economists and business leaders will gather in Shanghai from January 9 to 11 to discuss China's diverse economies.

Sponsored by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, the forumis also supported by the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce. It will be the first high-level economic forum to be held in Shanghai since the conclusion of the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) last November.

Major topics include the restructuring of the joint stock systems of state-owned enterprises, the development of a diversified economy, the relaxation of restrictions on private investment and difficulties in private sector development.

The work report delivered at the 16th CPC National Congress said that each economy should play its role and that they should seek common development. "This provides guidelines for China's diverse economies," said Yin Jizuo, president of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences.
