Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on Tuesday vowed to push for structural reforms and work hard for economy.

Koizumi made the remarks at a New Year's party of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

"Structural reforms are necessary for revival of the economy," he said.

The Japanese prime minister also pledged to help LDP candidates win local elections in April.

At the gathering, LDP Secretary General Taku Yamasaki called for consolidating party unity, saying more than 100 bills await the 150-day regular Diet (parliament) session that opens on Jan. 20.
