The All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) on Tuesday in Nairobi donated a batch of computers to itsKenyan counterpart to help the latter improve its capacity in information technology.

The computers were handed over to the Central Organization of Trade Unions of Kenya (COTU) at its headquarters by Counsellor Guan Ruoxun with the Chinese Embassy to Kenya.

"This donation is part and parcel of a new partnership that exists between COTU and ACFTU," said Francis Atwoli, secretary general of COTU, at the handing over ceremony.

"I wish to assure our social partners in China that their donation is going to make tremendous contribution towards the building and improvement of trade union capacity especially in the area of information technology," he said.

The computers donated by ACFTU together with COTU's own contribution of two computers will be used in launching a computer training center at the Tom Mboya Labor College in Kenya's western city of Kisumu to train labor movement personnel, he said.

"China is a true friend of Africa, and China has also helped Kenya in building various projects," he said.

He added that the arrival of the computers is just a beginning of greater assistance that workers in Kenya stand to receive from their counterparts in China.

"China and Kenya enjoy very good relations which is reflected in many areas of cooperation," said Guan.

The trade unions between the two countries had a long-time friendship and cooperation as well as frequent exchange of visits over the past years, she said.

The donation by ACFTU to COTU is another token of good wishes, friendly relations, continued cooperation and mutual assistance, Guan noted, adding that she was sure that the good working relations between the trade unions of the two countries will continue to develop.
