Pajero Sport Vehicles Debut in Beijing

Three models of Pajero Sport vehicles rolled off the production line Wednesday at Beijing Jeep Company, the first Sino-foreign joint venture in China's auto industry.

Three models of Pajero Sport vehicles rolled off the production line Wednesday at Beijing Jeep Company, the first Sino-foreign joint venture in China's auto industry.

Beijing mayor Liu Qi attended the debut ceremony.

The production of the GLS3.0A, GLS3.0 and GLX2.4 models is the result of agreements on technology transfer, technical services and the use of trademark signed June 4, 2002 between Beijing Jeep Company and Mitsubishi Motor Vehicle Co. of Japan.

The new vehicles are also the first products of Beijing Jeep since DaimlerChrysler, the foreign partner of the venture, prolonged its cooperation for another 30 years.

Beijing Jeep made 126 technical renovations of Mitsubishi's Pajero Sport vehicles, with the total investment reaching 160 million yuan (19.34 million US dollars).

Beijing Jeep began receiving orders for the Pajero Sport on Wednesday, but did not disclose any details on the annual output of the new vehicles.

Sources with Beijing Jeep also disclosed that another new Mitsubishi model, the Outlander, is due to be manufactured in Beijing in 2004.
