Any sanctions to be imposed by the United Nations Security Council on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) would be seen as a "declaration of war," the DPRK's ambassador to the UN warned Friday.

"Any kind of sanctions to be taken at the United Nations Security Council or anywhere, would be a declaration of war against the DPRK, that's our position," Ambassador Pak Gil Yon stressed.

"The nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula should be resolved through negotiations, by peaceful means, by the DPRK and the United States, the two parties directly involved in the issue," Pak said.

He described the United States' offer for negotiations as "insincere", citing preconditions attached by the US side.
