Ambassador of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to China Choe Jin Su said Saturday in Beijing that the withdrawal of his country from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) was triggered by the United States.

Choe said at a press conference here that the DPRK nuclear issue may be complicated if the United States fails to change its "hostile" attitude toward his country.

He reiterated that the DPRK intends to confine its nuclear plans to peaceful purposes including power generation.

"However, whatever we do in the future depends on the United States," he said.

DPRK Foreign Minister Paek Nam Sun announced the withdrawal of DPRK from the NPT was effective from Saturday in a letter sent to the president of the United Nations Security Council.
