Child Labor Case in South China Province

The Labor Supervision Detachment of the south-eastern city of Fuzhou levied a thirty thousand yuan fine on the Tebiete company for its employment of four minors.

The Labor Supervision Detachment of the south-eastern city of Fuzhou levied a thirty thousand yuan fine on the Tebiete company for its employment of four minors.

According to the labor department, Tebiete, a handcraft company,located in the capital of southern China's Fujian Province, had hired four underage girls to work more than 12 hours a day.

The investigation revealed that the four girls -- Xiaohong, Fangfang, Xiaojuan and Xiaohua, who come from eastern China's Jiangxi Province and central China's Hubei Province, had been introduced to the company by their friends or relatives.

In China, a person becomes a legal adult at the age of 18.

Two of the girls had just graduated from primary school.

Fangfang, who had been working for over a year, said she was supposed to earn between 300 and 400 yuan per month, however, she had not yet been paid because her salary was being withheld till the coming Spring Festival and part of her salary was to cover herroom and board. Xiaohua had been paid only 100 yuan for more than a month's work.
