Chairman of the Israeli Labor party Amram Mitzna has decided not to join a unity government if incumbent Prime Minister and head of Likud Ariel Sharon wins the upcoming general elections, the Army Radio said on Monday.

Mitzna is expected to convene a press conference Tuesday to announce the decision, the radio added.

A source close to Mitzna said the chairman is to announce Tuesday that the Labor party would never, under any circumstances, join a coalition government headed by Sharon.

According to the source, Mitzna will tell the press conference that his party will only accept two options: a rightist-religious government or a government led by himself.

Labor is now the second largest political party is Israel following Likud. Though Sharon's Likud leads the poll two weeks ahead of the general elections, Labor says it also has the chance to win.
