The annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) will be held in Davos next week, with the aim of restoring confidence in business leaders and institutions, the WEF chairman said at a press briefing Tuesday.

Under the theme of "Building Trust," the annual meeting will beheld from Jan. 23 to 28 in the Swiss ski resort of Davos, concentrating on necessary steps to build trust in business leaders and institutions, as well as on major economic and security issues of common concern, Klaus Schwab said.

More than 2,150 participants from 99 countries will attend the five-day meeting and they include leaders from government, business, media, religion and non-governmental organizations.

The meeting is convened amid the extraordinary climate of global uncertainty and complexity, as the past year has witnessed the breakdown of trust in many sectors of society, Schwab said.

Among the participants will be Brazilian President Luis Lula daSilva, Mexican President Vicente Fox, US Secretary of State Colin Powell, former US President Bill Clinton, Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski and Turkish Prime Minister Abdullah Gul.

Davos has been playing host to the WEF annual meeting since 1971.
