China could ensure two figure skating gold medals out of the four in total in the upcoming AsianWinter Games and the third gold is within touch, a high sports official said here Tuesday.

"We snatched three out of the four gold medals in figure skating for each of the previous two Asian Winter Games, and this time we'll take two for sure," said Wang Hongguo, a high official in the State General Administration of Sports, who governs the competitions of figure skating and skiing.

According to Wang, who is attending the 10th National Winter Games here, the pairs gold would definitely fall onto China's world champions Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo since no one in Asia now could pose any threat to the world No. 3 pair.

Shen and Zhao won the bronze medal at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and became China's first pairs champion at the Nagano World Figure Skating Championships last March.

Wang also believed that Zhang Weina and Cao Xianmin, who have regularly trained in America since 2001, would have better chance to crown the ice dancing.

China would also have chance to win men's singles although Japan's Takeshi Honda remained the toughest rival of China's triple of Li Chengjiang, Li Yunfei and Zhangmin, while women's singles became the chink after world champion Chen Lu's retirement.

The Asian Winter Games is to be held in Japan from February 1-8.
