Chinese and Russian officials Friday urged all parties concerned "to keep calm and exercise restraint" over the nuclear issue of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Yang Wenchang and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losiukov had a luncheon, during which they called on the parties to continue seeking a peaceful solution through dialogue under the current complicated situation.

According to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue, both Yang and Losiukov called for efforts "to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, support a nuclear-free Korea Peninsula, and settle the nuclear issue through dialogue."

In response to journalists' question on the results of the vice-ministers talks, Zhang said the two officials "exchanged views on Sino-Russian relations, the DPRK nuclear issue and other issues of common concern."

Losiukov arrived in Beijing earlier Friday for a stopover en route to Pyongyang, the DPRK capital, as Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy. Losiukov is expected to leave for Pyongyang Saturday.
