Cheng Shi'e Elected Chairwoman of CPPCC Beijing Committee

Cheng Shi'e, a former deputy secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, was elected chairwoman of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's government advisory body, at a committee session Friday in Beijing.

Cheng Shi'e, a former deputy secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, was elected chairwoman of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China's government advisory body, at a committee session Friday in Beijing.

The six-day First Session of the 10th CPPCC Beijing Municipal Committee, which ended Friday, also elected 12 vice chairmen. Theywere Huang Yiyun, Huang Chengxiang, Han Ruqi, Zhu Xiangyuan, Fu Tieshan, Man Yunlai, Wang Changlian, Zhang Heping, Chen Nanxian, Chen Jiansheng, Ye Wenhu and Tang Xiaoqing.

A native of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, Cheng, 62,is a senior engineer with a long and successful career in the light industry sector.

Cheng served as magistrate and Party secretary of the Shijingshan District in Beijing for years, and was appointed deputy secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China in January 2002.
