Sri Lanka Muslims, Tamil Rebels to Work out Resettlement Plan

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and separatist Tamil Tiger rebels are to work out jointly a comprehensive plan for resettlement of displace Muslims, the SLMC officials said Sunday.

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and separatist Tamil Tiger rebels are to work out jointly a comprehensive plan for resettlement of displace Muslims, the SLMC officials said Sunday.

The SLMC has entrusted the job of formulating a detailed plan for the phased out resettlement of the displaced Muslim families to senior lecturer of Peradeniya University S.H. Hasbullah, who attended the fourth round of peace talks between the government and Tamil rebels concluded on Thursday in Thailand as one of the three advisors to SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem.

Hasbullah also attended last week's meeting of the Sub-committee on Immediate Humanitarian and Rehabilitation Needs held at rebel-controlled Kilinochchi in the north of the country on behalf of the SLMC.

During the meeting the Muslims and Tamil rebels agreed to work for the resettlement of the displaced Muslims in the north.

Hakeem will take up the matter of resettlement for Muslims withNorwegian facilitators and the Tamil rebel leadership as well.
