A delegation of South Korea's Korean National Red Cross (KNRC) left Seoul Monday morning for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to attend the inter-Korean Red Cross societies meeting.

The three-member delegation, led by Lee Byung-woong, will arrive in Changjon, a port of the DPRK as a gateway to Mount Geumgang, later Monday to have talks with the DPRK team led by Li Gum-chol in the three-day meeting, the national news agency Yonhap News reported.

Discussion of establishing a permanent center for reunion of separated families of the two sides and arrangement of the sixth round of family reunions around the Lunar New Year day on Feb. 1 are expected to be high on the agenda in the talks.

The Red Cross talks will take place at a time when South Korea is strengthening cooperation with its allies to peacefully defuse the nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula.

The talks will be overlapped by the Ninth Inter-Korean Ministerial Meeting, which will begin on Jan. 21-24 in Seoul.

The South Korean government was reported to take advantage of the ministerial talks to deliver its concerns over the issue.
