China's CPI Drops 0.4 Percent in Dec. 2002
China's consumer price index (CPI)for December 2002 dropped 0.4 percent compared to the same period last year.

China's consumer price index (CPI)for December 2002 dropped 0.4 percent compared to the same period last year.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Monday that the CPI fell 0.6 percent year-on-year in urban areas in December, while in rural areas, it dropped 0.1 percent.
Figures show that, in 2002, the CPI dropped 0.8 percent year-on-year.
Twenty-one of China's 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions saw drops in the CPI compared with the December2001 figures, and nine saw small increases.
Figures show that the prices for services in December rose 1.4 percent and food, 0.5 percent year-on-year. Consumer goods prices dropped 0.9 percent.
Meanwhile, the prices for clothing, household goods, medical equipment, transport and telecommunications all dropped year-on-year. Prices for entertainment, education and housing rose 0.8 and0.2 respectively compared with the same period of 2001.
