President Jiang Expresses Condolences to Mexico

Chinese President Jiang Zemin has sent a message to Mexican President Vicente Fox, conveying sympathy and condolences from the Chinese government and people over the earthquake in Mexico, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said Thursday.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin has sent a message to Mexican President Vicente Fox, conveying sympathy and condolences from the Chinese government and people over the earthquake in Mexico, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said Thursday.

China hopes the Mexican people will overcome the hardships caused by the disaster and rebuild their homes as early as possible, Zhang said.

No Chinese were hurt in the earthquake, according to Zhang.

Figures from Mexican authorities on Wednesday showed 23 people died and over 300 were injured in a strong earthquake that jolted central Mexico at 8:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
