A Moscow theater where Chechen militants took hundreds of people as hostage last October reopenedSaturday after three months of repairs.

The theater was renovated with 80 million rubles (2.5 million US dollars) from the Moscow city government, the Interfax news agency reported.

"Nothing in this hall will remind us of those terrible days," said musical Nord-Ost producer Georgy Vasiliyev at the ribbon-cutting ceremony with presence of actors and Moscow city officials.

"Even former hostages who have visited can't find their seats" because of the extensive renovations, he was quoted.

Chechen gunmen seized the theater on Oct. 23,2002, interrupting a performance of the musical "`Nord-Ost" and taking about 800 people hostage. Three days later, Russian special forces stormed the building, during which all 41 hostage-takers were killed and 129 hostages left dead.

An influential business association, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, has pledged 10 million rubles (317,000 dollars) to revive the musical.

A new production is scheduled for Feb. 8 and the ticket office said most tickets for the show had been sold, said Interfax.
