A forum was held in Hangzhou Sunday, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, to mark the eighth anniversary of President Jiang Zemin's Eight-Point Proposal on the reunification of the motherland.

Representatives from over 40 provincial units and non-communist party committees, non-governmental organizations and universities attended the meeting.

Participants agreed that Jiang's proposal has played a major guiding role in upholding China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, promoting cross-strait relations, and advancing the reunification process.

Adherence to the One-China Principle was the core of Jiang's proposal and also the base and premise for developing cross-strait ties, the participants noted.

Zhejiang, which is close to Taiwan, has attracted an increasing number of Taiwan investors and tourists, said Zhou Guofu, a local government official. The province should further promote economic cooperation and trade with Taiwan and contribute more to the reunification cause of the motherland, he said.
