Strong Earthquake Hits East Turkey

Damage has been reported in a strong earthquake on Monday morning in Turkey's eastern Tunceli province, but there is no available information on casualties, according to the Anatolian News Agency.

An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale took place in Turkey's eastern Tunceli province on Monday morning, reported the Anatolian News Agency.

The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 7:26 a.m. local time (0526 GMT), was located at the Pulumur town of the province, according to the Istanbul-based Bogazici University Kandilli Observatory and Seismology Centre.

Tunceli Governor Mustafa Erkay said some buildings were destroyed in the region, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.

Erkal said assessments of casualties were still going on in Pulumur and the surrounding villages.

Citizens went out in panic in Erzincan and Erzurum provinces when the quake hit the region, said the Anatolian News Agency.
