A man-made dead sea is under construction in China's southwest Sichuan province. At a cost of one billion Yuan, the sea will be 97 kilometers from the province's capital of Chengdu, and will be 133 hectares in area.

The local tourism board says due to the rich salt resources in the region, the Dead Sea will contain 43 different minerals and microelements.

Upon completion this October, people will be able to float freely on the surface, as the sea will have a salinity of over 22 percent.

By the end of 2005, other recreational facilities including a water park, a Spa center and a golf course will be built around the Dead Sea.
